Funeral services for William Douglas Stephenson, 89 of Booneville, MS are set for Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 2pm at Magnolia Funeral Home – EAST with interment in Jacinto Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 12 pm to 2pm at Magnolia Funeral Home – EAST . Bro. Raybon Richardson officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Bradley Williams, John Marshall, J. D. Johnson, Joey Johnson, Harry Childs and Chuck Landry. Born May 7, 1934 in Altitude, MS, Douglas passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at his home in Booneville. He was of the Christian faith. Douglas moved to Chicago at the age of 18 where he met the love of his life, Peggy. He was a heavy equipment operator for General Motors, Sun Motor Company and other industries before moving back to Mississippi as going to work at Tyrone/Dan Corporation. Upon retirement from Dana he began a second career as an over the road –long haul truck driver. He proudly served his country stateside in the US Army during the Korean War and assisted with funeral detail for the fallen. His retirement and final years found him enjoying the outdoors, spending time with family, eating out, watching westerns and the RFD TV station and gardening. Douglas is survived by his daughters, Gena Lindsey and Carol Ann Johnson (Glen); son, William Edwin “Eddie” Stephenson (Marilyn); 5 grandchildren, Heather Lindsey, Dana Stephenson, Jennifer Lindsey Johnson (Jesse), J. D. Johnson (Brittney) and Joseph Johnson (Gracie); 8 great grandchildren, Skyler Lindsey, Payton Viger, Levi Viger, Paisley Grace Johnson, William Thomas Johnson, Elizabeth Aldridge, Jessie Lynn Johnson and Jonah Eron Johnson; brother, Bro. Charles Stephenson (Jewel) ; Sister, Glenda Childs (Raybon); brothers and sisters-in-law: Bonnie Hendricks, Steve Hilburn (Judy) Billy Ray Hilburn (Sharon), Jerry Hilburn ( Susie) and Bennie Hilburn; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Ann Hilburn Stephenson; daughter, Patricia Ann Stephenson; father, E. O. Stephenson; mother, Dora Kennedy Stephenson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy Hilburn, Albert Hilburn, Jim Hilburn, Donald Hilburn, Willie Hilburn, Carolyn Hilburn, Mary Virginia Hilburn, Minnie Hilburn, Mary Hilburn, Betty Hilburn and Geneva Hilburn. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mr. William Douglas Stephenson.
