William R. N. Howell William Robert Newton Howell, 87, died August 1, 2016 at Corinth, Mississippi after a short illness. Mr. Howell was born July 11, 1929, to Robert Newton Howell and Leila Norton Howell in Vossburg, MS. He grew up in New Orleans, LA, and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945, serving on active duty until 1954 and attaining the rank of Petty Officer First Class. Upon leaving active service, he entered the Ready Reserve, where he served his country for another thirty years and retired in 1984 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In his civilian career, Mr. Howell was a civil servant for the Department of Defense, working for many years for the Naval Electronics Command, before taking a position with the Naval Oceanographic Office, from which he retired in 1986. After losing their home following Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Howell and his wife, Glenda, have lived in Corinth since 2007. He is preceded in death by both his parents Robert Newton Howell and Leila Newton Howell and his sisters Gladys Newton Powers and Joye Howell McMullin. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Glenda Howell of Corinth, MS; sons, William Howell, Jr. of Sterling, Alaska, David Howell of Orlando, Florida, Jeremiah “Duke” Breaux of Buna, TX and Brandon “Bubba” Breaux of Justin, TX.; daughter, Brittney “Tilly” Breaux of Indiana; nephews, William McMullin of Corinth, MS, Joel McMullin and his wife Leticia of New Gloucester, ME.; niece, Robin McGovern and her husband Michael of Farmington, NM.; and 13 grandchildren. Mr. Howell will be interred in Zion’s Rest Cemetery in Wayne County, Mississippi. “He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again.” William Shakespeare, Hamlet, 1.2
