Wayne Butler Kenneth Wayne Butler of Corinth 74, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Health Center surrounded by his family. Visitation is Friday June 22 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Oakland Baptist Church. Funeral services are set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at Oakland Baptist Church. The body will lie in state on Saturday from noon until service time at the church. Mr. Butler was born September 1, 1937 in Guys, TN. Butler a long time educator was a graduate of Biggersville High School. From high school he enlisted in the Mississippi National Guard. He graduated from Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville and he received his Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Education in 1962 from Mississippi State University. He later earned his master and specialists degree in School administration from University of North Alabama in School Leadership. Mr. Butler, also known as Coach Butler spent 30 of his 32 years devoted to the Alcorn School District. He began as a teacher, basketball coach for boys and girls, and assistant Principal at Biggersville High school for 16 years. He then spent another 7 years at Biggersville Elementary as Principal. In 1981 Butler became the Director of transportation for the Alcorn School district, but quickly realized his true passion was his love for helping educators and young adults. In 1982 he became the Principal at Alcorn Central High School. He retired from Alcorn Central in December 1992. Butler then wanted to do something completely different so he began driving entertainer buses for Senator Coaches for several years. He quickly realized that dealing with young entertainers was very much like dealing with children in a school. Many band members called him Mr. Principal. In 2006 Mr. Butler returned to Education by serving on the Northeast Mississippi Community College Board of trustees, on the Grounds and Building community and on the foundation Committee at Northeast until his death. Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, Clara Howell Butler and Everette Butler of Corinth and one brother, Everette Butler who lived in Alabama. He was also preceded in death by a very special cousin Bobby Dean Davis who he considered more as a brother and who he loved deeply. Survivors include his wife of 50 years Mary Doles Butler, a daughter Tonya Butler-Farris and one Grandson Keaton Butler Farris who called his grandfather “Pop”. Keaton was the Apple of his Pop’s eye. He leaves behind a Brother in law Johnny Doles (Becky), Very special family members Mickey Davis, of Corinth, Scott & Stefanie McClain, and their daughters Sarah and Sydney of Cordova Tennessee. He also leaves behind Billy Howell (Peggy) and Betty Howell-Hopkins (Lenard) who lived with his family for many years and who is considered a brother and a sister, a sister in law Effie Doles, nieces Jonna Doles Shaw of New Albany, Amy Doles Lancaster of Corinth, nephew Steve Doles of Booneville and HOST of family and very good friends who will miss him dearly. Mr. Butler was a member of Oakland Baptist Church where is served as usher and as a van driver. Dr. Randy Bostick will be officiating the service. The eulogy will be given my Dr. Johnny Allen. President of Northeast Mississippi Community College and speakers will be Mr. Scott McClain, and long time friend Charlie Browning. Pallbearers will be Kent Farris, Jerry Woodruff, Larry King, Junior Rowland, Ron Rossi, Norman Borden, Parvin South, Frank Morton, Tony Morton, Tommy Barnes and Billy Howell. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Dilworth, Ely Mitchell, Emmett Dalton, members of the Board of Trustees at Northeast Mississippi Community College, members of the Northeast Foundation committee and members of Lowell Hinton’s Sunday School Class. Memorials contributions can be made to the Wayne Butler Memorial Scholarship through the Northeast Development Foundation. Contact Patrick Eaton at 662-720-7165.
