Sulley Detroy Ayers passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Magnolia Regional Health Center at the age of 90. Mr. Ayers was born June 11, 1920 in Tippah County, MS. He was formerly the Street Commissioner, County Supervisor, President of the Board of Supervisors and the Election Commissioner for 12 years. He owned Ayers and Mattox Construction Company. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII where he landed on D Day in France, he Served in General Patton’s Army and served in the Army of Occupation. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Gallantry and Bravery and also the Purple Heart. He was also 32nd degree Mason and a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He loved his family and friends especially his children and grandchildren and enjoyed discussing politics, riding his motorcycle, boating at Pickwick Lake and he loved to operate heavy equipment. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He is survived by his son: Buddy Ayers and wife Sherolyn – Corinth, MS 4 Grandchildren: Scott Benjamin and wife Geri - Memphis , TN; Brett Benjamin and wife Lisa – Corinth, MS; Tara Ayers- Corinth; Shawn Ayers – Corinth 5 Great Grandchildren Sister: Olene Ross- Corinth, MS Son-in-law: Jim Benjamin – Corinth, MS Other Relatives and a host of friends He was preceded in death by his wife : Lila Fern Ayers Daughter: Nina Gale Benjamin Mother: Florence Ayers Rowland Father: Kim Rowland Brother: James Demetra Rowland Sister: Lou Gene Woods Pallbeaers will be Robbie Lambert, Gary Briggs, Ladron Mattox, Brad Mattox, Ned Riddell, Jeff Rencher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Garvin Phillips, Bobby Caldwell, Thurston Little and Members of the American Legion.
