Sue Perry Plummer

It is with deep sadness the family of Sue Perry Plummer announces her passing on May 9, 2024, at Riverside Regional Medical Center with her children and grandchildren at her side. Sue was born on February 2, 1936, in Booneville, Mississippi, to Edwin Massey Perry and Helen Loftis Perry. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, husband Curt, and son Curtis Edwin Plummer. Surviving her are daughters Desiree Harris and Deborah Plummer, her grandchildren Curtis Edwin Plummer, Jr., April Wishart, Angela Thomas, Laura Claire Orsburn, Katie Wolbert, Aime Plummer, Peter Orsburn, and great grandchildren Seth Eggers, Ainsley Eggers, and Claire and Nora Wolbert. Sue was an employee of Norfolk Federal Savings and Loan, later Life Savings and Loan, for thirty-four years where she became an assistant vice president and officer of the bank. Sue worked tirelessly with her husband Curt for the Khedive Shriners Children’s Hospital and the Optimist Club of Norfolk. She was deeply involved with the Wards Corner Merchants Association as president for multiple terms serving both the business and general community to create neighborhood events and advertise the area businesses. She also served on the Clean Norfolk Commission and worked with focus and leadership groups for the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce. Upon retiring, Sue and Curt moved to Smithfield, Virginia, where they built their new home. Sue became involved, again, spearheading and chartering the first Optimist Club of Isle of Wight, joining the Woman’s Club of Smithfield, and becoming an integral member of the musical arts organization, Sundays-at-Four. In SAF, she worked diligently to support artists around the area and bring their extraordinary talents to Isle of Wight and the organization's home church, Christ Episcopal Church, which Sue was honored to join as a congregation member some years ago. She was proud to have helped bring the beautiful Steinway piano, “Clara,” to the church as well as work with church members on funding and restoration efforts of Christ Episcopal’s wonderful Tiffany-stained glass windows. Until she became ill, Sue remained active in her adopted community and church she came to love. Sue will be missed by family and friends alike and goes to God having lived a life of service to, and love for, those around her.  A graveside service will be held at Magnolia Gardens in Corinth, MS, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
