Shirley Janes Hester

A Celebration of Life service for Shirley Grace Janes Hester, 82 of Iuka, MS, will be Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 3:00 P M at Brownfield Baptist Church in Walnut, MS. Shirley passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. She was born April 12, 1942 in Benton County, MS to Travis Rainey Janes and Callie Lenora McKee Janes. She was a cosmetologist and a member of Tate Baptist Church. She loved free hand painting, playing video games, traveling, reading and Bible study. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Nancy Downen; her step-son, Huey Downen; 1 grandchild, Valerie Grace Rose Hoover and 10 others; 1 great grandchild, Christian Edward Lee Hoover and 13 others; 5 great great-grandchildren; her brothers, Tommy Janes (Sandy) and Bobby Janes; her sisters, Ruby Simmons (Danny) and Vera Mauney (Randle) and her constant loyal companion, Angel the Chihuahua. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Downen; her son, Johnny Mitchell; her grandson, Ethan Nathaniel Austin Hobock; her father, Rainey Janes; her mother, Lenora Janes; her brothers, Houston Janes, Larry Janes; Jimmy Janes and Terry Janes. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mrs. Shirley Grace Janes Hester.
