Sandra Milican Steen was born September 5th, 1953 in Nashville, TN to Samuel Arline and Ann Kelh Milican, and departed this life April 27th, 2019 with the love of her life and her children by her side. She is a 1971 graduate of West Point High School, and a graduate of Mississippi State
University. She also received a Masters of Education in 1982 from the University of Mississippi. She worked tirelessly and selflessly as a public school teacher and literacy coach for over 40 years, where she helped shape the lives of tens of thousands of students, teachers,
administrators, and families. While she was not a native Corinthian, she made the community her home, and sought to make it a better place, especially in retirement. She tutored students during the summer, worked with local mission groups, had recently began serving as a tutor at
the Corinth-Alcorn Literacy Council, and was a longtime volunteer, patron, and supportive stage mom of Corinth Theatre-Arts. While she will be missed often by those who thought of her as “Mrs. Steen”, she will be missed most of all by those who loved her most as “Nonni”. Sandra leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Eddie Steen, who loved and supported her work, her passions, and was the love of her life. Sandra also leaves behind two children: Joshua Candler Steen and his wife, Emily, of Corinth and Jenness Steen Smith and her husband, Jordan, of Columbus, MS. She also leaves behind two sisters: Rebecca Ann Parent of Houston, TX and Jane Etheridge
Long and her husband, Terry, of Thompson Station, TN. Sandra left this world having achieved many wonderful things, but she was most proud of
being a grandparent, and being “Nonni”. She leaves behind three beautiful grandchildren that she was so incredibly proud of: Lucy Grace Steen, Max Marsh, and Ava Marsh. She also leaves behind many close friends, extended family members, and the many people she was able to teach, mentor, tutor, and befriend. Instead of a traditional funeral service, her children have planned a celebration of her life for Sunday, May 5th at the Alcorn Central Elementary School at 2 PM. Her family looks forward to celebrating her remarkable life with her many former students, colleagues, and
friends.
