VIOLA SAVAGE
Mrs. Minnie “Viola” Cummings Savage passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at her
home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born on September 7, 1913, she was 101
years old at the time of her passing. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Munroe and Ida Bell Davis Cummings, her husband of 63 years, Paul Andrew Savage, her brothers Johnny B Cummings and Henry Alvie
Cummings, her sister Mary Emma Cummings Newcomb, her youngest daughter, Opal Dianne
Savage, and her oldest granddaughter Donna Marie Savage. She is survived by her children Paul Monroe (Cheryl) Savage of Corona, California, Mattie Ruth Bullard (Oakland, TN), Betty Jo Fleetwood (Booneville, MS), Ida Louise (David) Hogge (Goose Creek, SC), Viola Lorraine Savage (Corinth, MS), 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and lots of extended family and friends. Viola loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was a long time member of Holly Baptist Church. She loved cooking and always made sure there was a table and a freezer full of food. She worked for many years in the Corinth community at Gray’s Cafe, where she was well-known for her butter roll and fried peach pies. She also loved working in her garden and making quilts. She was kind, compassionate and very patient. She was a hardworker who remained independent until the end of her life. Visitation will be at Magnolia Funeral Home on Saturday, November 15 from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be 2:00pm on Sunday, November 16 at Holly Baptist Church with Dr. John Boler officiating. Burial will be at Holly Baptist Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
