A Celebration of Life Service for Mary Joan Taylor Reed, 79, of Glen, MS will be Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiated by Rev. Josh Shipman with interment to follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 1-2 PM at St Pauls Episcopal Church. Pallbearers include Tim Inman, Kenneth Lindsey, Bryson Lindsey, Keith Jones, Michael Gurley and Charles Gurley. Mary graduated from Kossuth High School in 1961, worked as a registered nurse with Alcorn County Care Inn and touched the lives of countless individuals throughout her dedicated service. Outside of work, Mary devoted her life to family, faith, and various interests. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and believed in the power of prayer and actively participated in church activities. In her free time, Mary indulged in several hobbies that brought her joy. She possessed a talent for sewing and created beautiful garments. As an avid reader, Mary immersed herself in literature and expanded her knowledge through the pages of countless books. Mary delighted family and friends with delicious meals created from scratch. Her cooking skills were without equal, and every dish bore the love she poured into it. Additionally, she found peace in gardening and nurtured vibrant blooms that mirrored her vibrant spirit. Her dedication to serving others extended beyond the healthcare profession. Mary selflessly served as Unit President and Chairman of various programs within the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion Post 6. She embraced this role with unwavering commitment and made a lasting impact on both veterans and their families. Mary Joan Taylor Reed will be remembered by all who knew her as an extraordinary individual who embodied kindness, compassion, and grace. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched during her nursing career, her devotion to her faith, and her unwavering love for her family. Survivors include her son, Bobby Jerome Taylor Jr. and wife Tammy; her daughters, Debbie Vanderford and husband Marvin and Rhonda Shipman and husband Mike; her grandchildren, Rev. Josh Shipman (Tim Inman), Hannah Burcham (Andy), and Trevor Taylor; her great grandchildren, Maison Burcham and Liam Burcham; her brother, Joe V. Gurley Jr.; her sister, Jeanette Jones (Jimmy); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband and father of her children, Bobby Jerome Taylor Sr; her 2nd husband Richard Reed Sr; her parents, Joe Gurley Sr. and Pearl Kellum Gurley; her brother, James Edward Gurley; her sisters-in-law; Char Gurley and Kim Gurley;  Online condolences may be left at magnoliafuneralhome.net.
