Mary Ella Michael Richie (1927-2014)
Corinth – Mary Ella Michael Richie, 87, died peacefully on the afternoon of
Saturday, August 2, 2014, in Memphis, Tennessee, at the Gallery Manor of Kirby
Pines Retirement Community where she had made her home since moving from
Corinth in January.
Born March 8, 1927, in Jumpertown, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the
late Doug and Mildred Yates Michael. She graduated from Booneville High
School and attended both Memphis State University and Mississippi State
College for Women (MSCW). Mary Ella was married to the late James P.
(Peachie) Richie of Booneville, Mississippi, on August 29, 1949, moving to
Corinth in 1950 where they spent the remainder of their 62 years of marriage.
She was a gracious woman, kind to everyone, sensitive to pleasing her Savior,
Jesus Christ, and living out her faith in a quiet life of love and service, especially
to her family. Mary Ella and Peachie Richie were members of Foote Street
Church of Christ in Corinth and shared a commitment to Pine Vale Children’s
Home, strongly supporting its work for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Graham (Jerry) of Germantown, Tennessee,
and a son, James Richie of Carrollton, Texas. She also leaves four grandchildren:
Christy Procell (Brandon) of Wichita, Kansas, Allison Evans (Tim) of Dallas,
Texas, Marina Richie of Bedford, Texas, and Leigh Ann Howard (Travis) of
Watauga, Texas, as well as six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
By her brother Eugene Michael
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Vale Children’s Home in
support of Mary Ella’s legacy of love for its children.
The family will receive friends at Foote Street Church of Christ on Friday, August
8 at 10-11:30 a. m. followed by a graveside service at Corinth National
Cemetery at noon.
