Lavern "Dink" Estelle Nash DowdA Celebration of Life service for Lavern "Dink" Nash Dowd, 88 of Glen, MS, will be Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:00 P M at Glendale Baptist Church with interment to follow at Glendale Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. John Haimes and Bro. Jack Bennett will officiate the service. Visitation will be Saturday, August 22, 2020 from 1:00 P M until service time at Glendale Baptist Church. Masks will be required and strict social distancing will apply during the service and visitation. Mrs. Dowd passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at her residence in Glen, MS. Mrs. Dowd was born April 26, 1932 in Rienzi, MS to Earie Roscoe Nash and Letha Elizabeth Vanderford Nash. She was employed by Weaver Pants Factory and the Alcorn County School system, where she served as secretary at Glendale Elementary. She had been a member of Glendale Baptist Church since July, 1947. Dink taught youth and adult Sunday School at Glendale for years and was the pianist and organist for 70 years. She enjoyed working in her flowers and took an arrangement to church every Sunday for everyone to enjoy. She loved her church and her family. Dink is survived by her daughter, Regina Sparks and husband David of Glen, MS; 3 grandchildren, Kristen Fowler, Dustin Sparks and Justin Sparks and wife Kaley; 1 great grandchild, Shiloh Sparks; her sister, Eveleline Palmer of Rienzi, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Julian Dowd; her father, Earie Roscoe Nash; her mother, Letha Vanderford Nash; her brothers, Roscoe Nash, Willard Nash and Millard Nash and her sisters, Avis Crum and Gladys Lambert. Honorary pallbearers will be C. L. Holland, W. L. Clayton, Robert Strickland, Frank Johnson, Tommy Gray and Chris Albright. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Glendale Church Steeple Fund. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mrs. Lavern "Dink" Dowd.
Laverne Dowd was a special person from the Glen community for many years. We have such fond memories of her and are saddened by the familys loss. We love you all:bangbang:
