Larry Gene Davis, 76, of Corinth, MS, traded his fishing pole for a harp on January 23, 2025, at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford, MS.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Magnolia Funeral Home East in Corinth. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 11:00 A M at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Bro. Larry Marshall will officiate the service.
Born on July 22, 1948, in Corinth, MS, Larry was a lifelong resident of the area. He married the love of his life, Linda Treece Davis, on March 1, 1985, proving that true love can survive even the most challenging fishing trips.
A true patriot, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged, no doubt with a few entertaining stories to tell (some of which may or may not have been entirely true).
Following his service, Larry embarked on a successful career as a self-employed salesman, likely charming his way into many a deal with his infectious laughter and witty banter. In his free time, Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: casting a line, adding to his collection of "treasures," attending auctions where he always seemed to find the one item or many items that he could not live without, and indulging in his favorite pastimes of smoking cigarettes and sipping on ice-cold Cokes.
A die-hard Ole Miss Rebels fan, Larry could often be found cheering on his beloved team with a fervor that could rival the roar of the crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Treece Davis, who will undoubtedly miss his mischievous grin and the sound of his laughter echoing through their home. He also leaves behind his daughter, Angela Weeks; granddaughter, Courtney Weeks; niece, Rebecca Hopkins; and nephews, William Davis and Chad Taylor.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Davis; mother, Estelle Hudson Whitfield; sister, Dora Hopkins; brother, Everett Lee Davis; nieces, Deborah King and Johnnie Harvell; nephew, Dennis Hopkins; and his beloved pets, the cute but rattlesnake of a chihuahua named Sugar, and the terrifying-looking but gentle soul, General Davis, the Doberman.
Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mr. Larry Gene Davis.
