Johnny Derrick, husband, daddy, brother, uncle, but most importantly a follower of Christ, went to his heavenly home on July 23, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. Service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Magnolia Funeral Home East with interment in Magnolia Gardens with Masonic Honors. Bro. Daniel Derrick, Bro. David George and Bro. Josh Westmoreland will officiate the service. Visitation will be Friday, July 26, from 5 P.M.- 9 P.M. at Magnolia Funeral Home-East. Pallbearers will be Chad Booker, Billy Scott Blackwelder, Mark Callahan, Jerry Fields, Denny Smith, Mike Quinn and Tim Bradley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Crumby, Jerry Latch, Dean Warren, Frank Wilbanks, Deacons of North Corinth Baptist Church and City of Corinth Public Works Employees. Johnny was born on August 1, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois to the late James Richard Derrick and Elsie Mae Spears Derrick. He was a member of North Corinth Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. He began his working career at World Color, where he worked for 25 years. Johnny’s true passion was serving others and his community. For the last 20 years he has worked for the City of Corinth where he served as the Sewer Line Crew Supervisor. For 10 years, he served the City of Farmington as their Sewer Maintenance Man. He also served as a Deputy for the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department and a patrolman for the Farmington Police Department. In his young adult years, he got involved with the Alcorn County Emergency Management and the Rienzi Rescue Squad. He enjoyed cheering for Ole Miss, against Daniel’s wishes, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Johnny enjoyed working outdoors, traveling to the mountains, camping, spending time with his family, and supporting his boys in whatever endeavors they got into. Johnny lived his life by five simple principles and raised his boys to do the same. Those principles were: (1) Never forget where you came from, (2) Mean what you say, Be a Man of Your Word, (3) Protect our last name and represent the family well, (4) Never Be Outworked, and (5) Serve Others. Johnny married the love of his life Laura Lee Claunch Derrick on November 10, 1993. In 1994 their first son John Daniel Derrick was born on September 14 & on June 9, 2000, the family of 4 would be complete as Jonathan Blake Derrick was born. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Sherry Claunch. 4 brothers; Rickey (Tammy) Derrick, David (Carol) Derrick, Jeffrey (Vickie Harris) Derrick, Robert Grammer, 3 sisters; Sissy Orman, Sarah (Ronnie) Bowen, Lisa (Jimmy) Lentz; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Martin) Whitehead; a special fur baby Rusty. Numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Perry Wayne Claunch and a best friend, who was more like a brother, Robert Mayes. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Johnny Derrick.
