John William Roberts, 78, of Corinth, MS, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born in Hattiesburg, MS on April 24, 1940 to the late Paul and Zora Breland Roberts. He retired as a Veteran of the US Army with 22 years of service to his country and worked several jobs before moving to Corinth, among them being groundskeeper for the University of Southern Mississippi for 9 years. Once in Corinth, he worked for the City of Corinth Street Department and retired from the state of Mississippi with 23 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bad Vibel, Germany and loved hunting and fishing in his spare time. John will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family and friends. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 pm Sunday, October 14, 2018 and from 10 am till service time Monday, October 15, 2018 at Magnolia Funeral Home. A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 am Monday, October 15, 2018 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories officiated by Bro. Jay Houston. Interment with full military honors will be in Corinth National Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor John’s memory include his daughters: Carla Rutland and husband Jeff of Bogue Chitto, MS and Melissa Lott and husband Lynn of Collins, MS; 5 grandchildren: Haley Williams, Powell Carnes, Douglas Williams, Thomas Lukens and Ann Marie Williams; his sister: Linda Wright of Hattiesburg, MS; his stepsons: Johnny Childress and wife Wendolyn of Corinth, William Childress of Savannah, TN and Anthony Childress of Ramer, TN; 5 step grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy Roberts; his brother: Paul Roberts, Jr., and by his sister: Mary Denning.
