James Edward Rogers, 87 of Rienzi, MS, passed away from this life on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home in Hinkle. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 12:30 P M at Antioch Baptist Church with interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park. Bro. David George will officiate the service. Visitation will be Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10:30 A M until service time at Antioch Baptist Church.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (affectionately known as “Pa”). He had a kind and loving heart and always set a Christian example for his children by putting God first. He was patient and gentle. He was loved and respected by everyone that knew him.
He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for over 30 years.
Mr. Rogers was a farmer and retired from Tyrone (Dana Corporation).
He was married to the love of his life, Imogene Green, for 69 years. Together they set an example for their children by loving each other for life.
Prior to his illness, Mr. Rogers was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching sports on television, but most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball. He loved tending to his cattle and helping his son-in-law on his farm.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Imogene Green Rogers of Hinkle, MS; his son, James Dennis Rogers of Hinkle, MS; his daughters, Judy Brawner and husband Brad of Corinth, MS and Jamie McCoy and husband Sam of Booneville, MS; his seven grandchildren, Rick Taylor and wife Shannon of Lexington, TN, Pam Verdung and husband Philip of Corinth, MS, Zach Rogers of Florence, AL, Clint Rogers and wife Angela of Florence, AL, Lee McCoy of Booneville, MS, Tate McCoy of Booneville, MS; and Jackson McCoy of Booneville, MS; his six great-grandchildren, Mary Mallette Taylor, Ben Taylor, Jack Taylor, Will Verdung, Gavin Rogers and Declan Rogers; his brother Bill Rodgers and wife Delores of North Canton, Ohio; his sisters, Hillard Switcher of Hinkle, MS and Doris Vanderford and husband Lewis of Hinkle, MS; other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice McDaniel and husband Terry; his father, Almous Rodgers; his mother, Gertrude Killough Rodgers; and his brothers, Tommy Rodgers and Eugene Rodgers.
Pallbearers will be Rick Taylor, Zach Rogers, Clint Rogers, Lee McCoy, Tate McCoy, Jackson McCoy and Will Verdung.
