A Celebration of Life service for James Taylor Burns, 72 of Rienzi, MS, will be Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 2:00 P M at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church with MDOT Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Kara Blackard, Bro. Cody Crum and Bro. Michael Taylor will officiate the service. Visitation will be Friday, May 24, 2019 from 5:00 P M to 9:00 P M and Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 12:00 noon until service time at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Burns passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at his residence in Rienzi, MS. He was born November 9, 1946 in Rienzi, MS to G.B. Burns and Myrtle Perry Burns. He was a member of Wheeler Grove Baptist Church and was a retired Captain with MDOT. James enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved his friends, family, church and his fur babies. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and loved his job. James is survived by his wife of 40 years, Toddie Burns of Rienzi, MS; his daughters, Shelia Patterson (Lloyd "Jr.") of Rienzi, MS and Tayla Burns (Scott Lyon) of Princeton, NJ; his grandson, Tyler Patterson; his brothers, Jerry Burns of Rienzi, MS, Leon Burns (Paulette) of Rienzi, MS, George Burns of Rienzi, MS and Roger Burns of Corinth, MS; his sisters, Sherry Putt of Corinth, MS and Paula Little of Corinth, MS; special friend, Shoney Smith of Corinth, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, G.B. Burns; his mother, Myrtle Perry Burns; his son-in-law, Jim Higgins; his sisters-in-law; Lorene Burns, Bettie Burns and Sandra Burns and his nephew, Michael Burns. Pallbearers will be MDOT Honor Guard. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mr. James Taylor Burns.
