H.C. Bates, 64, of Corinth, MS, went to his heavenly home on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Memphis, TN. He was a beloved husband, daddy, papaw and friend. H.C. was born on March 3, 1954 to Rudell and Clarice Bates and was raised in Tippah County, MS. He was a trucker, factory worker, dozer and backhoe operator, and retired from Caterpillar with 28 years of service. His favorite job was being the Fire Chief for Union Center/Theo Volunteer Fire Department. He joined the department in 1982 and became chief in the early 90’s. He remained chief until his recent illness. When not working, his greatest joy was camping and boating with family and friends. H.C. will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he loved. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 pm, Friday, December 21, 2018 and from 11 am till service time, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Magnolia Funeral Home. A celebration of H.C.’s life will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories officiated by Bro. Trent Nethery and Bro. Joe Spencer. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. Pallbearers include Seth Moffitt, Tim Phillips, Keith Marolt, Todd Robinson, Jason Sides, Ethan Moffitt, James Box, and Kevin Settlemires. Honorary pallbearers include the Union Center/Theo Volunteer Fire Department, Jackie Cooksey, Johnny Lindsey, Elton Wright, Sammy Moffitt, and Randy Garrison. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor H.C.’s memory include his wife of 22 years: Sherri Bates of Corinth; his daughter: Anissa Bates (Randy Garrison) of Fulton, MS; his step-daughter: Amber Ross (Jimbo) of Corinth; his grandchildren: Seth Moffitt, Shane Moffitt, Ethan Moffitt, and Harlie Ross; his great-granddaughter: Montana Moffitt; his sisters: Diane Gates of New Albany, MS and Wanda Pannell (Gene) of Ripley, MS; his sister-in-law: Debbie Turner of Corinth, MS; his brother-in-law: Richard Turner (Linda) of Corinth; the mother of Anissa: Carolyn Mullins of Fulton, MS; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and a host of friends.
