Elbert Nuel Settlemires, 86, of Walnut, MS, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in Memphis, TN on April 2, 1929, to the late N. F. and Grace Rose Settlemires. Nuel retired after 34 years of service at Intex. He danced his way through life with vigor and joy. After his retirement he busied himself with other projects. One of his great joys was spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing at Country Music Place in Walnut, MS. As a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, he looked forward to the hope of every great gardener - to be planted well and to rise in God's eternal spring. His roots are ever entwined in ours and his memory will never die in our hearts. Visitation is scheduled from 5-9 PM Friday February 12, 2016 and from 12 Noon till service time Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. A celebration of Nuel's life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. Trent Nethery. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers include Ray Porterfield, Clifford Porterfield, Kerry Fiveash, Roger Settlemires, Kenneth Settlemires and Lawrence Nelson. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Those left to honor Nuel's memory include his son: Benny Settlemires of Corinth, MS; two grandchildren: Greg Settlemires and Sheena Settlemires; his girlfriend: Joyce Jones of Ripley, MS; his special friends: Brenda Lowrance of Walnut, MS and Lanile Jeans of Walnut, MS; a special niece: Rose Porterfield of Walnut, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Nancy Evie Pannell Settlemires; a brother: Hershel Settlemires and a sister: Francis Wilbanks.
