Clayton Young Turner, 98, a devoted Christian, husband and father went to his heavenly home on Saturday morning, December 19, 2020 at his Corinth residence surrounded by his family. Clayton was the fifth son and one of thirteen children born to David Frank and Sallie (Nelms) Turner. He graduated from Alcorn Agricultural High School and was soon after drafted into the United States Army. Clayton served with the 5th Armored Division 42nd Battalion Company 3 and fought in six countries – Britain, France, Luxembourg, Holland, Germany, and Belgium. He received several medals including a medal in artillery and the Purple Heart. He was a farmer and had worked several years at Conley Supply Company and later as a carpenter for Bobby Caldwell Construction. He was the oldest living member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he had enjoyed worshipping, leading the singing, and teaching the men’s Sunday school class. Clayton enjoyed spending time with his family, and he was especially devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clayton is survived by his wife of seventy-four years, Hermie Monroe Turner; five children, Tommy Joe (Martha Jo) Turner, Johnny Turner, Sandra Talley, Amy (Steven) Taylor, and Wanda (James) Williams; eleven grandchildren, Danny Joe (Renee’) Turner, Emily (Keith) Bradley, Chris Talley, Beth (Deryl) Cossitt, Brad (Julie) Talley, Clay (Lori) Turner, Clarice Bullock, Arianne Kapt, Katie (Codye) Tomaszewski, Michael (Katie) Taylor, and Amanda (Landon) Janes; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leo, Benton, Flavers, Hillie, and Price; his sisters, Lillie, Lelar, Ella, Lois, Bessie, Velma, and Irene; a grandson, Justin Williams; and a son-in-law: Leamon Talley. A graveside service will be held for the family on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery. Bro. Philip Caples and Bro. Steve Roberts will officiate the service, which will be followed by military honors. Clayton’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
