Mr. Basden passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at his daughter's residence in Corinth, MS. He was born February 26, 1933 in Alcorn County, MS to John Grady Basden and Alice Cordelia Killough Basden. Mr. Basden was a kind hearted man with a gentle soul, he never met a stranger and was a friend to many during his lifetime. He loved life, loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At an early age he lived in Illinois where he worked at the Borden Ice Cream Co. in Cicero, Illinois then later worked at the Advertising Metal Co. also in Cicero, Illinois. After moving back to Mississippi he began farming, which he throughly enjoyed, especially driving his tractors. When the time came to gather up the hay from the fields he would let his girls take turns driving what they referred to as the “ole Yellow” truck. He believed he was teaching them the value of hard work while at the same time teaching them how to drive. As the years past the farming business was becoming to be too much with him having so much land and cattle to take care of on his own, he decided to sell out. He worked at the Alcorn County Co-op before he began working for the Alcorn County School System, in which he worked as a custodian at Rienzi Elementary School, another job he enjoyed. He spoke often of the faculty and staff and he enjoyed seeing all the little ones as they greeted him daily as “Mr. Roy”. He always loved to see little ones enjoying life as they grew, bringing a smile to his face. From his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the “school kids” as he often referred to them as. He loved gardening, fishing and baking. He could make some delicious cakes and pies as well as fried pies. Over the years, Mr. Basden had a host of friends and family that on occasion he enjoyed going out to eat with, which was often. He just enjoyed life and believed you should always live it to the fullest. In which he did up until his sickness had taken over his body and mind. Being raised in a faith believing, Godly, loving home, he loved the Lord. Early on in life he attended many church services at Danville Pentecostal Church and Biggersville Pentecostal Church. Then in the later years, he enjoyed attending West Corinth Pentecostal Tabernacle with his childhood friend, Bro. Merl Dixon, whom he has always respected, not only as a friend but also as a pastor for many years. Roy is survived by his daughters, Edna Roberts and husband Travis of Biggersville, MS, Doris Essary of Kossuth, MS, Virginia Smith and husband Leonard of Rienzi, MS, Lisa Holloway of Biggersville, MS and Christine Sellers and husband Gary of Farmington, MS; 15 grandchildren Tom Roberts (Kasey), Dusty Essary (Charla), Tasha Crow, Anna Finkle (Eddie), Rebecca Ligon (Edward), Ashley Doles, Terry Doles, Jr. (Lisa), Timothy Doles, Tiffany Wilbanks (Jeremy), Brittany Caradine (Billy), Whitney Vanderford (Brent), Randy Sellers (Gedgit), Trystal Harvell (Shane), Tiffany Saenz (Martin) and Zack Sellers (Danica); 38 great-grandchildren; brothers, Willie Basden and wife Mickey of Plainsville, IL, Bobby Joe Basden of Rienzi, MS, Rev.
