Charles Ray Hindmon, age 71, passed away on October 9, 2024, surrounded by his family at Savannah Health Care Center. Charles was born to Luther and Zula Hindmon on April 30, 1953, in Corinth, MS. He lived a life full of love, family, and a work ethic that led him to many successful careers and opportunities. He began working at the young age of nine years old in his parents’ cafe, from bussing tables and washing dishes, to helping drum up business. He then went on to work at Shiloh National Park while in high school. After graduation from Pickwick Southside High School he accepted a position at Central Electric and remained there until the company closed and he was blessed with a new longstanding career with the State of TN in 1976. He remained there as the Lead Conservation Technician and shop foreman until his retirement was fulfilled at 31 years. While he worked, he also owned and operated the Texaco gas station, a body shop, and a parts shop in Counce. After selling the Texaco station he bought an Exxon station in Pickwick Southside. Later he became an Empi parts dealer, one of the few in the tri-state area. Although he was always busy working, he also found time to volunteer. He worked with the fire department for 35 years as a volunteer fireman. He became the Fire Chief for District 14 and held that position for several years. He was also the president for Center Hill Cemetery. Besides working and volunteering, you could always count on Charles as a caring and wonderful neighbor. He knew how to help one in need, with a hammer, a tractor, or any handyman needs. Charles played as hard as he worked. He loved to play golf, playing Rook with friends, and riding his dune buggy. There is not a hill he hasn’t climbed in Dry Creek and Bruton Branch. Later in life, he enjoyed restoring many vehicles for his family and rebuilt his treasured car, a 1971 Dodge Demon, his very first car. He taught his children to work hard, be productive in life and to love hard. He loved his wife of 45 years and his three daughters. But when his grandchildren and great granddaughter came along, his love knew no bounds. All you had to do was look at his eyes and listen to him when he talked about them. Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Hindmon; his daughters, Amanda Stricklin (Roger), Kim Webb (Nathan), and Rebecca Watkins (Andy); his cherished grandchildren, Ben Fair (Lilly), Ashton Webb, Jackson Webb, Andrew Copeland (Abbie), Ethan Watkins, Sarah Watkins, and Matthew Watkins; his great granddaughter Maddie Jayne; his sister, Dianne Rickman (Ray); and a whole host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends. Charles is proceeded in death by his brother, Donnie Hindmon; and his parents, Luther and Zula Hindmon. We welcome our lifelong friends, colleagues, and family members to join us as we reflect and reminisce with our beloved ‘Charlie’. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 pm Friday, October 11, 2024 and 9 am till service time Saturday, October 12, 2024 all at Magnolia Funeral Home – East Chapel.
