He was born September 14, 1936 in Baldwyn, MS to Earnest Heavener and Pearl Saylors Heavener was a member of North Corinth Baptist Church. Our Father was admired for willingness to accept challenges in life and his ability to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He was extremely motivated – he wasn’t satisfied working for someone. He wanted to work for himself by owning his own company. In 1967 he and a business partner formed Metal Roof Decks in Memphis, TN. In 1972 he sold his part of the company and moved to Corinth and started Corinth Sheet Metal, which he successfully owned and operated for 28 years before retiring. He was known for his skillful craftsmanship in metal and roofing. One challenge he accomplished was to build his very own pontoon boat, starting out with flat sheet metal. He loved to farm and for a few years, besides running his company, he planted over 1,000 acres of cotton, soy beans and milo. He tried his hand at raising cows and pigs. As children living with Dad, we were exposed to many life experiences and adventures. Beyond his career, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Surobia in their RV on trips to the beach and the mountains, creating lasting memories in places they loved, especially their trips to the islands of Hawaii and Aruba. Our Dad will be dearly missed by family and friends. His family was his pride and joy. He loved being a Dad and a Pappaw. He showed unconditional love and always made it a point to say “I love you” over and over. Charles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Surobia Austin Heavener; his sons Michael Heavener (Rochelle), Dave Heavener and Keith McIntyre (Lori); his daughters, Cindy Griffin and Teresa Burns (Ricky); 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Tammy Wiley; grandson, Trent Wiley ;his father, Earnest Heavener; his mother, Pearl Saylors Heavener; his brothers, Earl Heavener and Roger Dale Heavener and his sisters, Betty Cooper, Roberta Moody and Noverta Downer. Pallbearers will be Clay Burns, Jacob Wiley, Kaleb Wiley, Blake McIntyre, Ben McIntyre, AJ Burns and Braylen Parrish. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Cross In The Crossroads, P.O. Box 42, Corinth, MS 38835. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mr. Charles Heavener.
