Billy Ray "Bill" Briggs, Sr. passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, MS at the age of 90. Mr. Briggs was born October 8, 1920 in Theo, MS to the late Jefferson Pierce "J.P." Briggs and the late Alice Dillingham Briggs. He was a member of Waldron Street Christian Church. Mr. Briggs ran a milk route in the 1940’s. He also hauled lumber to Howell’s Planer Mill during the winters and farmed during the summers until 1989. During the late 1950’s and early 1960’s he did truck farming from Alcorn County to Memphis Farmers Market. In the early 1970’s he had a plumbing business while he still farmed. Then he opened Bill Briggs Construction/Dirt Work in the late 1970’s. He continued working and driving a dump truck until he was 88 years old. One of his favorite pastimes was setting up at First Monday in Ripley, MS. He loved talking with people and having fun there. One of his favorite sayings was “Buy, Sell, Trade, Give Boot, Take Boot or Swap Even.” He loved talking on his CB radio and his handle was “Combine”. He loved life and loved being with his family. He was a devoted, loving husband for 70 years to his wife, who went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2011. He was able to reunite with his bride one week and one day later to complete the bond in Heaven that they shared here. Mr. Briggs is survived by his son: Billy R. Briggs, Jr. and wife Carol – Corinth, MS Daughter: Dannette Briggs Rickman and husband Reggie – Corinth, MS 4 Grandchildren: Billy Ray “Lucky” Briggs III and wife Christy, Aubrey Kennon “Ken” Briggs and wife Leslie, Margie Allison Rickman Clausel and husband Richard, Christy Dannette Rickman Welch and husband Todd all of Corinth 9 Great Grandchildren: Cassidy Ann Briggs, Kaylee Jane Briggs, Robert Pierce Briggs, Naron Lee Briggs, Sadie Vance Briggs, Mary Abigail “Abbie” Clausel, Annie Marie Clausel, John Neal Welch, Nealy Danielle Welch Sister: Lila B. Voyles - Corinth, MS Sister-in-law: Virginia Briggs – Corinth, MS Brother-in-law: O.L. King – Corinth, MS Lifelong friend: Billy Gene Dobbins - Corinth, MS Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Other Relatives and a host of friends He was welcomed to heaven by his wife of 70 years: Margie Marie Cook Briggs Father: Jefferson Pierce “J.
