Betty Burcham Hickman went to her eternal home on Friday, April 16, 2021, after a short illness. She was a member of Strickland Church of Christ. A celebration of life service will be held for her at Magnolia Funeral Home - East Chapel on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 2:00pm with burial in the Burcham Family Cemetery. Terry Smith, minister of Strickland Church of Christ will conduct her service. Visitation will be Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Magnolia Funeral Home East Chapel. Ms. Hickman was an example of determination and achievement, working her way through school and college. She worked in several clerical positions and then in the administrative office of Alcorn County Schools for twelve years. Then, she continued her education at Blue Mountain College earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She taught in Lee and Prentiss Counties before retiring. She enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers in her spare time. She liked to travel and toured many of the western states. She left behind her three grieving children: Violet Cole (William), Phyllis Bonner (Earl) and Stephen Hickman (Bonnie). She enjoyed the love and attention of her three grandchildren, Matthew Cole, Andrew Bonner (Jessica) and Lydia Hickman Sanders (Ashton). The last gift of family she received was two great-grandchildren: Mary Helen and Elliot Bonner. Also surviving her were her two sisters, Clara Price and Linda Knight (Dewey) of Corinth, and one brother, Cleston Burcham of Burnsville, MS. She is remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Talmadge Hickman, and her parents, Clyde and Eva Burcham of Rienzi. She recently lost two brothers, Olan Burcham of Phil Campbell, AL and Rodger Burcham of Cherokee, AL. Pallbearers for her service will be Lane Burcham, Lloyd Burcham, Jeff Burcham, Sammy Fortenberry, Nathan Knight and Matthew Rorie. Honorary Pallbearers are Andrew Bonner, Matthew Cole, Ashton Sanders and Joe Price. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mrs. Betty Louella Burcham Hickman.
