Born August 7, 1942 in Corinth, MS., Betty passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023 in Tupelo, MS. In December of 1960, she married her best friend, Kenneth, and from then on, you never saw one without the other. She  retired as the Jewelry Department manager for Kmart / Sears Holding Company. She was a charter and active member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and played the piano and organ for the church since her early teenage years. Betty was the Sunday School secretary for many years and was very active in the Backpack ministry and food pantry. She loved working with the children and youth at her church and helping with Vacation Bible School. Always having a servant’s heart, she desired to put everyone else before herself. Spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events was something she truly enjoyed. In her earlier years, she loved family vacationing at the beach, however, later in life she enjoyed heading up to the mountains. Those left to cherish Betty’s memory include her husband of 62 years, Kenneth Elam; daughters, Kimberly A. Sallis (Cary) of Oxford and Tricia L. Tomlinson (Trey) of Corinth; 5 grandchildren, Anna Kate , Abby and Alden Tomlinson and Cara-Anne and Zakery Sallis; brother, Robert “Buster” Brooks; sisters, Faye Brooks and Jamie Patrick; sister-in-law, Judy Brooks; special niece that was like a daughter, Brandie Counce (Shawn); numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Betty is preceded in death by her father, Raymond C. Brooks; mother, Mattie Louise Kirkland Brooks; brothers, Donald R. Brooks and Billy Wayne Brooks and sister, Nancy Kay Brooks.
