Bernice Latch

Bernice Latch, 87, of Corinth, MS, left this world for her heavenly home on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Mississippi Care Center. She was born in Corinth, MS on April 12, 1931 to the late Wilford and Bessie Walker. Bernice was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and gardening. She also dearly loved the Lord and her church, Wheeler Grove Baptist Church. She spoke often of going home to be with her husband Bobbie and the Lord. She loved talking with friends and family. One of her greatest joys was taking care of her animals or “critters” as she loved to call them. She never met a stranger and could always find something in common with anyone and start a friendship. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1951. She often told her family stories of her time there. Bernice worked hard all of her life. She was employed with Kuhn’s, Vendo, ITT, and Century Electric and served as general manager of the downtown Dollar General until her retirement to “keep her grandkids”. She would cook a full course meal every day. Bernice was a four time cancer survivor. She never let it beat her and passed away after a short illness unrelated to cancer. Visitation is scheduled from 5-9 pm Monday, September 17, 2018 and from 12pm till service time Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church. A celebration of Bernice’s life will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Kara Blackard. Interment will be in Wheeler Grove Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Bernice is survived by her “Boys”: David Lee Latch and wife Ginger of Corinth, Alan Douglas Latch and wife Lisa of Corinth, and Billy Fike and wife Gloria of Hastings, MN; her grandchildren: Chad Latch and wife Erin, Heath Barnett and wife Holly, Shane Barnett, Alisha Kelly and husband Philip, and Brian Latch; her great-grandchildren: Bearen Barnett, Brock Barnett, Camden Barnett, Vincent Latch, and Elijah Latch; her sister: Brenda Kaiser of OH; her brother: Johnny Walker of OH; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: Bobbie Lee Latch; her parents: Wilford and Bessie Walker; her brothers: Fred Walker, James Walker, Ray Walker, and Carl Walker; and her sisters: Dorothy Fike and Betty Holloway.
