It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Benny "Butterbean" Jones on May 5th, 2023 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Benny was born in Alcorn County, MS on December 23rd, 1952 to Johnnie and Overa Rogers Jones. He graduated from Kossuth High School in 1970 and lived a fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends. Throughout his career, Benny worked as a farmer, truck driver, and in construction. But it was his love for music that brought him the greatest joy. He was an accomplished guitar player and loved to play gospel and bluegrass music. Benny often participated in Corinth Pickin' on the Square and for many years at Bethlehem Baptist Church where he worshipped.
Beyond music, he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 49 years, Kathy Smith Jones, daughter, Jessica Pittman (Dale), and grandsons, Isaac Henry Pittman and Elijah Marc Pittman. He had a close relationship with his brother, Johnnie Mickey Jones (Verneice), as well as his mother-in-law, Madeline Smith, brother-in-law, Gary Smith (Joyce), nieces, Kelly Brummett (Kurt), and Breeanna Brents, nephew, Michael Jones (Mary), great-niece, Lola Jones and great-nephew, Zach Brummett, along with other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Jones and Overa Rogers Jones as well as his father-in-law, Mark Smith.
Services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church on May 7th between the hours of 5pm-8pm for visitation followed by funeral services held on May 8th starting at 2 pm officiated by Bro. Trent Nethery and Bro. Joe Spencer. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Pallbearers include Greg Dixon, Will Jones, Brian Barnes, Scott Barnes, Kevin Miles, and Jay Jones. Honorary pallbearers include James Box, Tom Morrow, Doug Jumper, Art Jumper, Larry Huddleston, Billy Mason, and the KHS Class of 1970. We extend our sincerest condolences to all grieving his loss and pray for lasting peace and comfort during this difficult time for his family and loved ones.
