Ben Shipman
Benjamin Robert Shipman, 17 of Corinth, MS , passed away from this life on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, TN.
Funeral services are scheduled at Oakland Baptist Church on Monday, March 24, 2014 @ 3:00 pm with burial to follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Oakland Baptist Church and Monday, March 24, 2014 from 1:00pm until service time at Oakland Baptist Church. Dr. Randy Bostick will officiate.
Born November 6, 1996, Ben was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and Oakland Baptist Church Youth Group. He also was a vital member of the Oakland Orchestra where he played the French horn along with participating in the Hand Bell Ensemble. He was a member of the Kossuth High School Marching Band, Concert and Jazz Bands. He played the French horn among other instruments and worked his way up to Drum Major as a junior in high school. During his time with the Kossuth band he received numerous awards including 7th- 9th solo and ensembles all 1’s and 9th grade 1st chair blue band NE Band camp. He auditioned for the MS All-State Lions Band and made call backs. Ben was also part of the Most Outstanding Red Band and Most Improved Drum Major at ICC in 2013; Most Outstanding Red Band where he played 1st chair at Northeast MS Community College in 2013; NEMBDA 2012-2013- 2014 Honor Band . He attended State Band Clinic with the MS Band Master’s Association. He was chosen for both the MS State and Ole Miss Honor Bands as well as the MS State Marching Honor Band. He was superior Drum Major at MS Marching festival. Ben was outstanding French player for the KHS band. He participated in the indoor Guard and indoor Percussion at Kossuth. He also tutored 6th and 7th grade band students. Ben was always learning to play new instruments and mastering them. As a junior at KHS he actively participated in the FCA, Math and Science club, National Honor Society and FBLA. Ben was 2nd in his class and he was an all “A” student, having never received any grade lower than an A. Ben participated as a mentor at KHS, where he mentored a younger student, assisting him with his homework, day to day needs and was a wonderful friend.
Survivors include his parents, Ritchie and Trina Mauney Shipman of Corinth, MS; his
sister, Whitney Lane Shipman of Corinth, MS; his paternal grandparents, Jerry and Marie Shipman of Corinth, MS; his maternal grandmother: Yvonne Mauney of Ripley, MS; his uncles and aunts, Tracy Shipman and wife Maria of Corinth; Angela Shipman of Corinth, MS; Lana Pannell and husband Jr. of Ripley, MS; Billy Mauney and wife Gail of Ripley, MS; his cousins, Blake Shipman, Kaydee Beth Shipman, Brandi Ketchum, Russell Pannell, Samantha Unz, Megan Mauney, Emily Mauney along with other relatives and a host of friends.
Ben is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, C. R. Mauney.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kossuth High School Class of 2015, Kossuth High School Band and Band Director, Brandon Harvell.
