Alene Mae Newcomb, 87, of Corinth, Mississippi, died Friday, January 30, 2015, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. She was born on February 16, 1927 to Colonel and Emily Craig Gardner. She was a Christian and a member of Grace Bible Baptist Church. She loved her church family and pastor, who were so kind to her. She was a homemaker, who loved caring for her family and did that for as long as her health allowed. She worked diligently in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also loved to quilt and do all kinds of needle work. In later years her passion was sending friends and loved ones birthday, get well, and thinking-of-you cards. Visitation is scheduled for 5 until 8:30 PM on Monday, February 2, 2015 and from 11 AM until service time on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Magnolia Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, officiated by Pastor Donald Sculley. Interment will follow in Forest Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers include the men of Grace Bible Baptist Church. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include a daughter: Patricia Jean Nelson and husband Travis of Corinth, who were her caretakers for the past 9 years; a grandson: Rodney Nelson, who was the light of her life, and wife Tanya of Corinth; a special loveable pet: TomTom; 1 brother: Keith Gardner of Corinth; 2 sisters: Lucille Woodall of Corinth and Rita Kay Brueck and husband Les of Cordova, TN; 3 sisters-in-law: Bernice Gardner of Sheffield, AL, Oral Gardner of Collierville, TN and Marjorie Newcomb of Portage, IN; a brother-in-law: Bobby Lothenore and wife Kay of Anna, TX; 2 special friends: Sue Rogers and Sarah Ferrell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years: Cecil Newcomb; her parents: Colonel and Emily Craig Gardner; a sister: Pauline Dellinger; 4 brothers: Neal, Harold, Haryse and Stenson Gardner.
